The WAAC will be under construction starting August 7. Please read the below for information on programming, access to the Centre, and other important information.
As many of you are aware, the Municipality will be replacing the flooring on the main (lower) level of the Centre. We finally have a date!
Closed – WAAC will be closed on Thursday, Aug. 3 & Friday Aug. 4 to pack and relocate our operations to the upper level.
Open – We will reopen on the upper level only on Monday, Aug. 7. Unfortunately, we do not have any means other than the stairs to access this level while the lower level is closed. Please keep this in mind if considering a trip to the Centre. Our hours will remain the same, 8:30-5:30, Monday to Friday during this time.
Programs and Activities Closed During Construction
While we are able to move most of our activities upstairs, there are a couple that we cannot accommodate. The following activities will not be held during construction.
1. Pool Tables
Our Pool Tables will be closed during this time. We ask that all pool players who have left their pool cues at the Centre please take your cues home with you by Wednesday, Aug. 2nd. We cannot guarantee the safety of any items left at the Centre. Pool tables will not be available after Aug. 2nd until we reopen after construction. The felt will also be replaced once the construction has been completed.
2. Wii Games
Due to accessibility concerns, Wii Games will need to be canceled. Unfortunately, Betty will have to wait a bit longer to try for her 18th perfect game.
3. After Hours Access
The Key Fob system must be deactivated while construction is happening, so after-hours access to the Centre to use the exercise equipment will be canceled. Other after-hours programming will continue, as program leaders will be provided with a key.
4. Sue’s Kitchen
Sue’s Kitchen will also be closed during construction. She will still be providing frozen meals and baked goods during the closure. If you have any questions for Sue, please email her at sueskitchen2011@hotmail.com or call/text 519-359-6832.
Temporary Procedure for Attending the WAAC
Access to the Centre – Will be via the side entrance. The door will be unlocked from 8:30am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday.
After-hours Program Leaders will have keys to access the building for those programs but may lock the doors during programming for security purposes.
When participating in activities upstairs, we usually ask that members bring clean, indoor shoes. This policy will be suspended except for those using workout equipment. If you are coming in to work out, please continue bringing clean shoes, as it helps keep the machines in better repair. You will be able to change your shoes upstairs when you arrive. If you are coming to the Centre for other activities, you do not need to bring indoor shoes with you.
Sign-in System – will be in the upstairs lobby. We ask that you continue to sign in using the system as you normally would.
Office – will be located in the current boardroom (the door between the white cabinets and the glass wall). Victoria and/or Silke will be on site during regular hours to assist with any questions or concerns as usual.
Fitness Studio – (where our exercise classes are normally held) will be sectioned off to have tables for cards, etc. set up on one end, and the other side available for Fitness Studio use.
The work is expected to take approximately 3-4 weeks. Provided there are no unexpected delays, the entire Centre will be open after Labour Day. We will keep everyone up to date as we get the information ourselves.
